Remove Odors from Apartments and Real Estate

Building Odor Removal

Apartment Building odor removal

Before you cover the odors with paint, let us permanently remove the odors from your Apartment or Real Estate. Painting over odors only traps the odors, and many times once the paint dries the odor starts to leach out.   To prevent odors, managers will first paint a base coat of Kilz, then paint again with new paint. Instead of painting to get rid of the odors, let us treat the apartment or real Estate with our H202 Decon product. Not only will the odors be gone, mold and mildew will be eliminated, pathogens will be destroyed, and chemical residue it neutralized.  If the past tenants used drugs, this can be a very troubling liability if new tenants experience problems.

Marijuana odor removal

One of the primary functions of flowers is to create terpenes, odoriferous chemicals designed by nature to attract pollinators and ward off predators. These pungent compounds can be one of the best and worst parts of enjoying cannabis. The rich smell of fresh, sticky bud can be fantastic to a marijuana lover, but very objectionable by those who do not smoke pot.

Marijuana use is also routinely associated with other drugs, whether deservedly or not.  It is likely that a marijuana smell in an apartment or real estate for sale, would be one of many illegal substances a forensic analysis would turn up.  This is more than an odor issue.  There could be serious health problems by the next tenants if the problem isn’t fully treated.

Pollutants Removed

EcoVive will solve the environmental threats in one simple, non-toxic treatment.  Our proprietary spray system will destroy every odor in the apartment or house.  It will also decontaminate for pollutants, chemical residue, and drug contamination.  Our treatment will kill mold and mildew on contact, and kill all pathogens.

VOC dangers in your home

VOC testing

You can’t see them, but they’re all around us. They aren’t listed as ingredients on the objects we bring in our home, but they’re often there. They’re volatile organic compounds, or VOCs, a wide range of carbon-based molecules (organic compounds) used in a wide range of products that find their way into our homes.

Under normal conditions, they vaporize, effectively leaving their host and entering the air (that’s the “volatile” part) where they combine with other airborne compounds to form a potentially harmful mixture of chemicals, which isn’t good to breathe.

Volatile Organic Compounds, or VOCs, are harmful chemicals emitted by many of the products and materials we have in our homes. VOCs are chemicals that are dispersed as gases from solids or liquids that evaporate into the air at room temperature. Concentrations of these chemicals can be up to 100 times higher indoors than outdoors. Thousands of products emit these gases while in use or even when stored. Many of these products are used or being exposed on a daily basis. It is also known that most VOCs cannot be detected by smell.

The risk of health effects from inhaling any chemical depends on how much is in the air, how long and how often a person breathes it in. Breathing low levels of VOCs for long periods of time may increase some people’s risk of health problems. Several studies suggest that exposure to VOCs may make symptoms worse in people who have asthma or are particularly sensitive to chemicals. These are much different exposures than occupational exposures to VOCs.

VOC TESTING

At the present time, there are no national or state standards that are specific for school, office, or home settings. In addition, there are many opinions in the science and medical communities about the degree of risk posed by various amounts of VOCs.

Although much research needs to be performed to establish acceptable exposure levels to mixtures of VOCs that may be present in homes, schools, offices, and commercial buildings; recent European research has provided a good starting point, and provides a basis for the IAQ Index.

In general, the research has found that exposures to typical mixtures of VOCs below 1.0 ppm (1,000 ppb) should not result in health effects or significant occupant complaints, exposures in the range of 1 to 10 ppm should be expected to produce some health effects and complaints, and exposures above 10 ppm may produce more serious health effects.

The one thing that is for sure is that if you are having problems with your health while you are in your home, runny nose, itchy eyes, headaches, coughing, etc. It may be a good idea to have your home or business tested for VOC’s

Indoor Air Pollution

Common Sources of Indoor Air Pollution in your Home or Building

  • People.  70-90% of what you see floating in a ray of sunshine entering your home is dead human skin flakes. And remember, we can only see about 10% of the airborne pollutants. Dead human skin is a staple of the dust mite diet.
  • Dust.  House dust is a mixture of diverse substances that can cause allergies. House dust is composed of a number of natural substances, including dried food particles, mold spores, pollen, fabric fibers, animal dander, and insect parts, especially those of dust mites and cockroaches. However, particles and debris from dust mites are the major source of allergens in dust. As is the case with other allergens, these particles contain proteins that are small enough to become airborne and inhaled.
  • Allergens Pollens, ragweed, and a variety of other allergens find their way into the home from outdoors.
  • Carpet, Plywood, and other Construction Materials. The “new” smell associated with new carpet, newly painted walls, new home, remodeled room, etc. is actually the out-gassing of the chemical solutions used to treat these products. These are known an VOCs.
  • Pillows and Blankets.  Dust mites comprise over 50% of the weight of the average pillow. Dust mite allergy is an allergic reaction to tiny bugs that commonly live in house dust. Signs of dust mite allergy include sneezing and runny nose. Many people with dust mite allergy also experience signs of asthma, such as wheezing and difficulty breathing.
  • HVAC Systems Air ducts serve as a fertile breeding ground for mold spores.
  • Household Cleaners/Aerosols, Insecticides, Pesticides. We literally poison the air we breathe with chemical fumes and toxins when we use these products.
  • Moist things or humid environments. Mold spores, bacteria, and mildew thrive in dampened towels, wash cloths, and moist or humid areas of the home. Children in homes with high mold show persistent, cold-like symptoms – 300% more than average.
  • Pets Airborne animal and/or pet dander (dried spit from the animal that breaks off the end of their hair and floats in air since they are so small) is a common trigger for allergies and asthma. Plus, the feces from your pet emits added contaminates into the air.
  • Insects and other Bugs Insects and bugs feces are a powerful allergen. In a recent extensive study by the New England Journal of Medicine, more than half the homes tested had high levels of cockroaches. Children living in these homes were more than three times as likely to be hospitalized for asthma.
  • Smoking. Smoking in the home or vehicle leaves the air being breathed dense with over 3600 cancer-causing toxins. These toxins also cling to the clothing we wear, and release themselves when we enter other homes and buildings.

Mold Inspection services in Grand Rapids

Mold Inspection-Grand Rapids

Mold Testing

Do you need a Mold Inspection? The first thing to understand about mold is that there is a little mold everywhere – indoors and outdoors. It’s in the air and can be found on plants, foods, dry leaves, and other organic materials.

It’s very common to find molds in homes and buildings. After all, molds grow naturally indoors and outdoors. Mold spores can enter the home through doorways, windows, and heating and air conditioning systems. Spores also enter the home on animals, clothing, shoes, bags and people.

When mold spores drop where there is excessive moisture in your home, they will grow. Common problem sites include humidifiers, leaky roofs and pipes, overflowing sinks, bath tubs and plant pots, steam from cooking, bathroom exhaust fans vented improperly, or where there has been flooding.

Many of the building materials for homes provide suitable nutrients for mold, helping it to grow. Such materials include paper and paper products, cardboard, ceiling tiles, wood and wood products, dust, paints, wallpaper, insulation materials, drywall, carpet, fabric, and upholstery.

The Importance of Mold in the Real Estate Market Today

For homeowners, a mold inspection will either put your mind at rest or make you aware of any problems that could cause delays or deal breakers in the sale of your home. A professional mold inspection by EcoVive will give you a signed report before you put the home up for sale. Imagine being able to show a “clean bill of health” to potential buyers that express concerns – they’ll be impressed by your thoroughness and commitment to your home.

For buyers, getting a mold inspection will ensure that you’re not surprised by costly clean up and the potential health hazards of mold. If any mold is found to be present and active in the home, the mold inspection will allow you to ask the seller to do the clean up prior to buying the home

Can My Home Be Tested For Mold?

Yes. We offer thorough mold inspections that involve visual examinations of the most likely areas to harbor mold. We also take air samples indoors and out to determine whether the number of spores inside your home is significantly higher. If the indoor level is higher, it could mean that mold is growing inside your home.

It only takes a small water leak, or even excess humidity, for mold to form in your Grand Rapids home or business. Then, mold can spread quickly through the property in as little as 48 hours. Mold can produce allergens and irritants, and it has the potential to cause other health effects. If you suspect your home or business has a mold problem, call EcoVive today for a Mold Inspection. 616-401-9176

Home Purification Treatments

Home Purification Treatment

Indoor air pollution is recognized as one of the major health concerns facing the nation today causing Allergy Symptoms, Asthma, Headaches, Fatigue, Nausea and many severe and even unknown illnesses. The EPA estimates that the indoor levels of many pollutants are 2-5 times higher, and on occasion, 100 times higher than outdoor levels. Because of this, the EPA ranks indoor air as one of the top five environmental threats to human health. ). Further, the EPA has also stated that today’s homes contain an estimated 1,500 hazardous compounds from approximately 3,000 man-made products. In recent years, comparative risk studies performed by the EPA and its Science Advisory Board (SAB) have consistently ranked indoor air pollution among the top 5 environmental risks to public health.

An Ozone Home Purification Treatment, aka, Ozone Shock Therapy, can dramatically improve indoor air quality by destroying mold & mildew, pet odors, tobacco odors, living organisms, germs, viruses, harmful VOC’s (Volatile Organic Compounds) etc., creating a much cleaner, safer atmosphere in your home and work environment. Ozone is a Natural Occurrence in Nature. It is produced by natural occurrences such as thunderstorms, lightning strikes and waterfalls. In fact, the fresh, clean-smelling air you breathe after a storm is a lingering result of ozone. We are pleased to provide this service improving the indoor air quality for you and your family.

Even low levels of pollutants produced by these products can affect human health over a period of months or years. Modern construction, our desire for more efficient homes, the resulting over-insulating and under ventilating of our homes have given rise to an explosion of molds and mildews, as well as other fungi, which are the cause of the swelling epidemic known as Sick Building Syndrome. Is your home or workplace making you sick?

Whether it is an odor problem or sick building syndrome there is now a solution to this modern day problem. We offer one of the safest and most effective procedures for purifying a home, office, vehicle or any indoor space of odors, allergens, airborne mold spores, dust mites and VOC’s that may be polluting your indoor environment.

Our Home Purification Treatment will ensure that the air you breathe is both clean and healthy.

Indoor Air Quality-Grand Rapids

Indoor Air Quality

Indoor Air Quality Grand Rapids

Your family’s health begins at home. Most people consider protecting their health by focusing on diet, exercise and regular medical exams. Too often, we overlook another key factor in good health – having good indoor air quality in the home.

According to a survey conducted by the American Lung Association, 85 percent of Americans don’t realize that the air in their homes may be a health hazard. But, in fact, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has consistently ranked indoor air pollution among the top five environmental risks to public health. It estimates that indoor air levels may be two to five times more polluted, and occasionally, 100 times more polluted, than outdoor air. These levels of indoor pollutants are of particular concern, because it is estimated that most people spend as much as 90 percent of their time indoors.

The American Lung Association reports that indoor air quality can cause or contribute to the development of chronic respiratory diseases such as asthma. In addition, it can cause headaches, dry eyes, nasal congestion, nausea and fatigue. People who already have respiratory diseases are at greater risk.

For many years people have been led to believe that cleaning with chemicals, with bleach being the number one recommended chemical,  was the best way to improve their indoor air quality. with the advancement in Ozone technology and training, Ozone is a better choice for improving indoor air quality.

Ozone kills microorganisms on contact by cellularlysis and cytoplasm dispersion- it directly ruptures the cell walls of the microorganisms, which results in an instantaneous death. By comparison, bleach kills bacteria by diffusing through the cell wall and then oxidizing the enzymes within the cell. In contrast to bleach, ozone disinfection does not produce any harmful residues and is considered as an environmentally friendly disinfectant. This makes it ideal for use in medical applications, for example in hospitals or doctors waiting rooms. The main advantage of ozone compared to other treatment methods for air disinfection is that it is able to efficiently disinfect a large air volume. In contrast to UV radiation and HEPA filter, ozone is a gas that could penetrate to every corners of the room, thus it could disinfect the entire room effectively. Given the advantages of strong oxidizing power, good penetration capacity and no harmful residues left after the treatment, ozone may be recommended to be used in disinfection of contaminated environments. As of June 2001, ozone has gained FDA approval as a sanitizer not only for food contact surfaces but also for direct application on food.

Antimicrobial Home Treatment

Antimicrobial Home Treatment

Antimicrobial Home Treatment

Do you have a clean home? We all know that our bathrooms are germ hotbeds, but did you know that many germs that will make you sick are lurking around your home in places you may never have considered?

Bacteria, fungus and germs can live in places you would normally consider clean. Our Antimicrobial Home Treatment can eliminate the germs.

A CLEAN KITCHEN SINK?

If you dropped a grape in your kitchen sink while rinsing it, would you think twice about popping it in your mouth? What if you dropped it in the toilet?

Although the thought of retrieving anything from your toilet bowl may be enough to make you sick, your toilet may be cleaner than your kitchen sink, says Eileen Abruzzo, director of infection control at Long Island College Hospital of Brooklyn, New York. Food particles from plates left to soak or rinsed from dishes on their way to the dishwasher can serve as a breeding ground for illness-causing bacteria, including E. coli and salmonella. They can get on your hands or spread to foods.

Although most people take steps to disinfect their toilet bowls, few give their kitchen sink the same consideration.  Many people will rinse their sinks, or wash them with soap and water. While they are clean, they are not sanitized.

YOUR SOFA MAY BE A HOTBED OF GERMS

A FAMILY sofa harbor’s more nasty bacteria than the average lavatory seat, a new study has found. Chair and sofa arms harbor 19,200 germs per 100 square centimeters – 12 times the amount on a lavatory seat, says the study carried out by Domestos and UNICEF

HIDDEN DANGERS IN YOUR BATHTUB

The place where you clean yourself is not so clean itself. According to WebMD, A recent study found staphylococcus bacteria in 26% of the tubs tested.

THE OBVIOUS PLACES OF GERMS

Then there are the obvious places where germs like to live – bathrooms, toilets, floors, door handles and others. These are the places that most people are already trying to keep clean.

Unfortunately, when using traditional cleaners, surfaces can get re-contaminated within minutes of being disinfected.

YOUR PATH TO A HEALTHIER HOME

EcoVive provides an Antimicrobial surface treatment program that is applied on common household surfaces that will inhibit odor causing bacteria, germs, viruses, mold and mildew.

Home Air Quality

EcoVive odor removal and sanitizing

Allergies are an abnormal response of your immune system. Almost anything can trigger an allergic reaction, ranging from mild to severe and life threatening. Some of those threats are pollen, dust mites, pet dander, mold, chemicals and fragrances. Our goal is to remove or nullify the threats in the building, and improve the Home Air Quality.

Many people with allergies or Asthma use HEPA filtration in their homes. Use of a HEPA filter is a good idea, but it is a localized solution.  HEPA filters can only treat whatever flows through them. Pollen and other problematical irritants are scattered throughout the building, embedded in the carpet and furniture, in the ductwork, and clinging to the other surfaces.  The vast majority of the threat will never go through the HEPA filter system.

When ozone is applied to a vacated building, many of the hard-to-reach pollutants are neutralized.  Ozone will kill off dust mites, neutralize pollutants, destroy pollen, and attack dander.  Additionally, all mold spores will be destroyed.  The occupants will return to a fresh-smelling building, and the triggers of allergies and asthma are greatly reduced.  The concept is very effective.

Ozone is an enriched form of oxygen, and nothing else.  It is the extra oxygen atom that makes it   such an excellent oxidizer of contaminants.  Because ozone quickly reverts back to oxygen in about twenty minutes, it must be generated on the spot at a level that an air purifying machine cannot reach.  After a three hour treatment by EcoVive odor removal service, amazing things happen.  It is well-reported that ozone is highly reactive, but not flammable.  It attacks everything in the air and everything that the air touches.  Therefore, everything ozone touches is treated.  Odor will be eliminated at a molecular level and will never return.  Mold spores and pollen are oxidized and rendered non-threatening.  Dust mites are easily killed in all areas.  Toxic gases are neutralized.

The ozone reverts back to oxygen leaving a faint smell of rain-fresh air for a few hours.  When the family returns to their home, there is no ozone threat because ozone quickly reverts.  What they will also find is a much more allergy or asthma friendly building with much better home air quality that makes life easier for everyone.  With a routine cycle of treatment, people suffering from allergies and asthma should see a noticeable reduction in symptoms.

By addressing the house or building rather than the person, we attack one of the biggest issues for those with breathing problems. The use of Ozone means we are not bringing any chemicals into the building.  There will be no residual chemicals left behind.  Many of the small insects will have been eliminated although this is not a pest service, and mold will die away.  The results for allergy sufferers should be obvious.  With a less hostile environment, reactions are minimized.

We do recommend HEPA filtration as part of the larger treatment process as well.  The treatment process should include the more proactive use of ozone on the building.  It is unfortunate that there is no cure for allergies and asthma.  However, there are some helpful processes that can provide relief to those suffering from these conditions.
