Mold Inspection-Grand Rapids

Mold Testing

Do you need a Mold Inspection? The first thing to understand about mold is that there is a little mold everywhere – indoors and outdoors. It’s in the air and can be found on plants, foods, dry leaves, and other organic materials.

It’s very common to find molds in homes and buildings. After all, molds grow naturally indoors and outdoors. Mold spores can enter the home through doorways, windows, and heating and air conditioning systems. Spores also enter the home on animals, clothing, shoes, bags and people.

When mold spores drop where there is excessive moisture in your home, they will grow. Common problem sites include humidifiers, leaky roofs and pipes, overflowing sinks, bath tubs and plant pots, steam from cooking, bathroom exhaust fans vented improperly, or where there has been flooding.

Many of the building materials for homes provide suitable nutrients for mold, helping it to grow. Such materials include paper and paper products, cardboard, ceiling tiles, wood and wood products, dust, paints, wallpaper, insulation materials, drywall, carpet, fabric, and upholstery.

The Importance of Mold in the Real Estate Market Today

For homeowners, a mold inspection will either put your mind at rest or make you aware of any problems that could cause delays or deal breakers in the sale of your home. A professional mold inspection by EcoVive will give you a signed report before you put the home up for sale. Imagine being able to show a “clean bill of health” to potential buyers that express concerns – they’ll be impressed by your thoroughness and commitment to your home.

For buyers, getting a mold inspection will ensure that you’re not surprised by costly clean up and the potential health hazards of mold. If any mold is found to be present and active in the home, the mold inspection will allow you to ask the seller to do the clean up prior to buying the home

Can My Home Be Tested For Mold?

Yes. We offer thorough mold inspections that involve visual examinations of the most likely areas to harbor mold. We also take air samples indoors and out to determine whether the number of spores inside your home is significantly higher. If the indoor level is higher, it could mean that mold is growing inside your home.

It only takes a small water leak, or even excess humidity, for mold to form in your Grand Rapids home or business. Then, mold can spread quickly through the property in as little as 48 hours. Mold can produce allergens and irritants, and it has the potential to cause other health effects. If you suspect your home or business has a mold problem, call EcoVive today for a Mold Inspection. 616-401-9176

Musty Basement Smell

Musty Basement Odor Removal

There are many degrees of basement odor & mold problems. The odor we hear the most about is a musty basement. Musty oOdor removal with Ozonedors are caused by mildew and mold, which grows and thrives in damp locations. A musty smell coming from the basement is most often noticed in the spring and fall when the furnace or air conditioning units are not running and windows are closed. A musty smell might be described as earthy, moldy, stale, or dank. Of course not everyone has the same smell descriptors, but I think we can all agree that for the most part, a musty smell is not a good thing. It is an indicator of decay. It is a sign of uncleanliness. It could be unhealthy. The cause of the musty basement odor is usually caused by an excessive amount of moisture coming through the porous concrete surface of your basement, or by a water leak in a pipe. The excessive moisture can soak through to other soft porous surfaces in the basement such as furniture, drapes, clothes and carpet. Spring floods can also bring water into a basement and cause a musty odor after the water recedes.

Sometimes, basements can be completely dry and still have a musty smell. One cause of this odor is what has been described as smelling like an Antique shop. This is caused by degradation of paper products and very old wood. Old waxes and polishes could also contribute to the smell.

Odor removal with Ozone

EcoVive uses professional Ozone generators to remove musty basement odors. The ozone goes directly to the source and will oxidize the stale, unpleasant odors found in basements. Ozone is very effective in removing musty odors often caused by mold and mildew. Ozone deteriorates the cell structure of the microorganisms, eliminating their ability to reproduce. As the entire space fills with ozone, every interior surface including floors, ceilings, closets, furniture and clothing gets sanitized and deodorized. While ozone is not able to pass through solid walls, it goes where normal air can go, even down into cracks and crevices.

EcoVive provides odor removal and mold removal services in the Grand Rapids, MI area, and throughout West Michigan.

Chicken Coop Cleaning

Chicken Coop Cleaning

As spring approaches in Grand Rapids, the time is here to do a good cleaning and disinfecting of your chicken coop. This is especially important if you are considering bringing in new birds or replacing your flock. Decontaminating your coop is crucial in order to prevent diseases and other poultry health problems.

The first step to getting the chicken coop ready is to begin by airing the coop out as well as you can and then raking or shoveling out the old bedding. If you are sensitive to smells and chicken fluff, you may benefit from wearing a mask. This is another good reason (second to your flock’s well-being) to tackle chicken coop cleaning before the ammonia smell builds. Once most of the bedding is out, you can sweep the remaining bits out with a broom.

Then you are ready to clean. EcoVive of Grand Rapids provides an all-natural, non-chemical cleaning and sanitizing service for chicken growers in Grand Rapids that will make this job much faster, and more effective.

Using chemicals, like bleach to clean and disinfect your chicken coop can have disastrous effects on a flock. Chickens are very susceptible to respiratory illnesses and cleaning a coop with harsh chemicals can cause problems.

With the use of our Liquid Ozone machine we can perform a chicken coop cleaning without the use of chemicals. The Liquid Ozone will not only clean, but it disinfects and removes odors at the same time. After the coop has been cleaned and dried, we can run our high output Ozone generators to totally disinfect the coop. With the use of the ozone gas, every nook and cranny in the coop will be disinfected.

If you raise chickens at your home in Grand Rapids and are looking for a better way to clean and disinfect your coop, give us a call today. We would love to help you.

Mold Inspection-Grand Rapids

Mold Testing

Ten Things You Should Know About Mold (www.epa.gov/mold)

  • Potential health effects and symptoms associated with mold exposures include allergic reactions, asthma, and other respiratory complaints.

  • There is no practical way to eliminate all mold and mold spores in the indoor environment; the way to control indoor mold growth is to control moisture.

  • If mold is a problem in your home or school, you must clean up the mold and eliminate sources of moisture.

  • Fix the source of the water problem or leak to prevent mold growth.

  • Reduce indoor humidity (to 30-60%) to decrease potential growth by: venting bathrooms, dryers, and other moisture-generating sources to the outside; using air conditioners and de-humidifiers; increasing ventilation; and using exhaust fans whenever cooking, dishwashing, and cleaning.

  • Clean and dry any damp or wet building materials and furnishings within 24-48 hours to prevent growth.

  • Clean mold off hard surfaces with water and detergent, and dry completely. Absorbent materials such as ceiling tiles, that are moldy, may need to be replaced.

  • Prevent condensation: Reduce the potential for condensation on cold surfaces (i.e., windows, piping, exterior walls, roof, or floors) by adding insulation.

  • In areas where there is a constant moisture problem, do not install carpeting (i.e., by drinking fountains, by classroom sinks, or on concrete floors with leaks or frequent condensation).

  • Molds can be found almost anywhere; they can grow on virtually any substance, providing moisture is present. There are molds that can grow on wood, paper, carpet, and foods.

School Sanitizing

School Sanitizing

Enterovirus D68

Enterovirus D68 is going to sweep through our schools and daycare centers like a cruel stalker to make countless children very sick. Dozens of cases have already been confirmed.  While the reaction from school officials to a threat like this is to perform a school sanitizing by wiping every thing down with a bleach cleaner will help, it is not the best method. When school opens the next day the first infected child to touch a surface voids all cleaning efforts. This is because the bleach offers no lasting benefits. School sanitizing needs to go further than just bleach, it needs to offer a long lasting protection of all surfaces against germs and viruses.

We offer a better solution to fighting of these dangerous viruses.  With a treatment of our Biozone protectant, not only will a complete school sanitizing be performed, but also a layer of protection will be in place that is constantly fighting the reinfection of surfaces that have been treated.  Biozone protectant is a 24/7/365 germ fighting program, that can be applied to any surface, hard or soft. It is non-toxic, non-transferring and non-leaching. Once dry, there is no worries of little children putting things in their mouths.

If schools and daycare centers are sanitizing with bleach water they are doing o.k. But they need to be doing more. Bleach works, but it’s like the difference between a match and a blowtorch. A match will burn for a minute, but a blowtorch will burn for hours. If you are fending off a fierce threat, you do not want to use a match if you could be using a blowtorch.

School is in ! The Enterovirus is already spreading and making children seriously ill, and even killing some. EcoVive has an answer that will do the job of protecting our children.

Cigarette odor removal from cars Grand Rapids

Vehicle Odor Removal

Cigarette odor removal from cars.

One of the worst things to smell in a car is the cigarette odor. Most people would never purchase a vehicle that smelled of cigarettes. But many times car dealerships will cover up the smell enough that it is not noticeable when the car is for sale. But give that car a couple of weeks and the smell will return.

Regular methods of cleaning and deodorizing a vehicle are not always enough. Cigarette odors are particularly difficult to remove because smelly chemical compounds can penetrate deep into the upholstery and padding. An ozone shock treatment will send pure ozone (O3) deep into every crevice, destroying these odorous compounds that could not be washed away.

The same as with any ozone treatment, always start here: clean up the source of the smell! If you are dealing with cigarette odors, assess the problem and clean the affected areas with a quality automotive cleaner. It will help in the elimination of the odor if the interior has been completely cleaned. Wipe down all surfaces, seats, dashboard, headliner and carpet. This will remove the film that is left behind by the smoke, but will not get rid of the odor.

Before you spend money on all kinds of chemical treatments, or cover-up scents trying to perform a cigarette odor removal on your own, call EcoVive, we will remove the stink, and most likely save you money in the long run.

Surface Protectant Program- Grand Rapids

EcoVive Sanitizing

Surface Protectant Program

There’s more to clean surfaces than meet the eye. Virtually any public area represents a potential breeding ground for microorganisms. Good hygiene and cleaning practices are well recognized as important elements for preventing the spread of these microorganisms. But this is not enough. Even having high touch point surfaces sanitized has failure points. EcoVive offers a Surface Protectant Program that will give another layer of protection.

The first is during application.  The EPA has shown that sanitizers need to be on the surface for up to ten minutes to kill all types of pathogenic threats.  This never happens, so the true sanitizing by cleaning crews and staff are not nearly as effective as advertised.

The second issue of concern is even more important.  The sanitizing process can be compromised minutes or hours after it has been done.  The best efforts of the most diligent cleaning program solve the infectious threat existing prior to the sanitizing process.  These efforts are nearly useless as new bacteria and germs are introduced with daily activity. High touch point areas in an office, school or daycare are easily infected with microorganisms after they have been sanitized.  They are touched by many people in a day’s time, and provide the perfect transmission point for pink eye, colds, flu, and more.

EcoVive uses BioZone Protectant, which  is an antimicrobial surface treatment. This is not the same process as found in most sanitizing processes.  Any surface treated with BioZone Protectant is converted into a microscopic killing zone that works for days, weeks, and months after application.

BioZone Protectant is odorless, works on all types of surfaces and lasts for months. With the increase in drug resistant bacteria and germs on the rise, protecting yourself, your employees or your patrons should be of concern.  EcoVive offers a layer of protection above and beyond what your cleaning company offers.

Home Purification Treatments

Home Purification Treatment

Indoor air pollution is recognized as one of the major health concerns facing the nation today causing Allergy Symptoms, Asthma, Headaches, Fatigue, Nausea and many severe and even unknown illnesses. The EPA estimates that the indoor levels of many pollutants are 2-5 times higher, and on occasion, 100 times higher than outdoor levels. Because of this, the EPA ranks indoor air as one of the top five environmental threats to human health. ). Further, the EPA has also stated that today’s homes contain an estimated 1,500 hazardous compounds from approximately 3,000 man-made products. In recent years, comparative risk studies performed by the EPA and its Science Advisory Board (SAB) have consistently ranked indoor air pollution among the top 5 environmental risks to public health.

An Ozone Home Purification Treatment, aka, Ozone Shock Therapy, can dramatically improve indoor air quality by destroying mold & mildew, pet odors, tobacco odors, living organisms, germs, viruses, harmful VOC’s (Volatile Organic Compounds) etc., creating a much cleaner, safer atmosphere in your home and work environment. Ozone is a Natural Occurrence in Nature. It is produced by natural occurrences such as thunderstorms, lightning strikes and waterfalls. In fact, the fresh, clean-smelling air you breathe after a storm is a lingering result of ozone. We are pleased to provide this service improving the indoor air quality for you and your family.

Even low levels of pollutants produced by these products can affect human health over a period of months or years. Modern construction, our desire for more efficient homes, the resulting over-insulating and under ventilating of our homes have given rise to an explosion of molds and mildews, as well as other fungi, which are the cause of the swelling epidemic known as Sick Building Syndrome. Is your home or workplace making you sick?

Whether it is an odor problem or sick building syndrome there is now a solution to this modern day problem. We offer one of the safest and most effective procedures for purifying a home, office, vehicle or any indoor space of odors, allergens, airborne mold spores, dust mites and VOC’s that may be polluting your indoor environment.

Our Home Purification Treatment will ensure that the air you breathe is both clean and healthy.

Daycare Centers Antimicrobial Surface Treatment

Daycare Surfaces May Hold Germs Longer Than Thought.

The importance on cleaning schools, daycare centers, and play areas is simply not enough.  It has become common knowledge that these child-intensive areas are notorious infection transfer sites for nearly every disease making the rounds.  Disease pass through these areas then pass through the family.  For many, the acceptance of disease exposure is part of the cost of raising a family in our society.  This is more than unfortunate because an illness is only part of the problem.  Lost work, health complications, and death may be avoided with a small elevation in infection prevention. EcoVive offers an affordable and practical solution to a substantial reduction strategy of infectious threats with an Antimicrobial surface treatment program utilizing BioZone Protectant.

Independent lab testing shows that BioZone antimicrobial coating applied by EcoVive is capable of dramatic reduction of microbial threats.  Cleaning is always essential, but adding a BioZone Protectant treatment on a regular cycle can provide extraordinary microbial reductions at high as 99% over a 30-60 day cycle.  The fact that our Antimicrobial surface treatment can be applied with a minimum of interruption is important.  BioZone is professionally applied and bonds with the any surface. We can treat soft material like clothes, carpet, toys and furniture. We can also treat all surfaces throughout the building. Once dried, the coating will prevent bacteria from colonizing on surfaces, odors are eliminated, and mold is reduced.

BioZone is not a spray sanitizer. It is a treatment that stays on the surface working 24/7 to inhibit bacteria, germs, odors, allergens, mildew, and even mold. It works like an air purifying system that attracts microbial threats with a biostatic charge, and then pierces the microbes as they land.

This Micro-biostatic Antimicrobial Coating forms a nano bed of spikes on surfaces that disrupt the microorganism’s membrane. This will cause the microbe to lose energy and quickly die. This new technology provides a perfect approach to inhibiting microorganisms without the use of unsafe heavy metals or poisons. This mode of action is entirely unique to other antimicrobials.

Call EcoVive today to find out how we can help protect your school, daycare center or play area from disease.
